Why are PNG files large?
PNG uses lossless encoding and is particularly useful for graphics, screenshots and images where transparency matters. Detailed PNG files can still be much larger than a lossy photographic format.
Can PNG quality be lowered like JPG?
Not with the standard browser PNG encoder used by Pixmora. PNG encoding is lossless, so the quality slider does not provide the same size-versus-quality control as JPEG or WebP. When you need stronger size reduction, creating a WebP copy can be a practical alternative if your destination supports it.
How to make a PNG smaller
- Open the Pixmora compressor and select your PNG.
- Consider reducing excessive pixel dimensions.
- Keep PNG when transparency or lossless output is important.
- Choose WebP output when a smaller modern web asset is appropriate.
- Compare the generated file before downloading.
PNG compression for websites
Use PNG for interface graphics, screenshots or transparent assets when its characteristics are useful. For photographs and other detailed images, a suitable JPEG or WebP workflow may produce a substantially smaller file.
When should you use target-size mode?
If an upload form gives you a limit such as 100KB or 200KB, use target-size compression. Very small targets may require changing dimensions or output format.
