When do you need target-size compression?
Many application forms and upload services specify a maximum file size. Target-size mode is designed for those situations: it searches for an output near the requested limit rather than using only a fixed quality setting.

Common limits include 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, 300KB, 500KB and 1MB. Always follow the exact limit and file-format requirements given by the service you are uploading to.
How Pixmora approaches the target
For formats with adjustable lossy quality, Pixmora tries different quality levels and compares the generated byte size with the requested target. If quality alone cannot get close enough, the tool can reduce dimensions and try again.
Why an exact byte size is difficult
Image encoding depends on the source content, dimensions, format and browser encoder. A requested number of bytes is therefore a target rather than a guarantee. Very small limits may require substantial changes to the image.
PNG and target sizes
PNG is lossless, so the usual quality control does not work like JPEG/WebP quality. When target-size mode needs stronger control, Pixmora may use WebP output instead. Check the required format of your destination before downloading.
How to get a better result
- Start with the destination's maximum size, not an arbitrary smaller number.
- Keep dimensions appropriate for the destination.
- Check the final file size and visible quality.
- Keep your original image separately.
