A re-encoded export may remove EXIF/GPS and other original file metadata. Visible content is not removed.

What is image metadata?

Image metadata is information stored alongside image data. Depending on the camera, phone, application and file format, it can include camera settings, timestamps, software information and sometimes location information.

What is EXIF data?

EXIF is a common type of metadata used by cameras and image software. It can contain details such as camera model, exposure settings, orientation and, on some devices, GPS coordinates.

Why remove EXIF metadata?

Metadata can be useful for organizing your own photos, but you may not want every embedded detail to travel with an image you publish or share. Creating a clean copy can reduce the original metadata carried by the exported file.

Does this remove GPS information?

The browser-canvas export is intended to avoid carrying common original EXIF/GPS metadata into the generated copy. It should not be treated as a forensic guarantee that every possible metadata field is removed from every image format.

Does metadata cleaning change the photo?

The visible image is intended to remain substantially the same, while a fresh encoded copy is created. The output format and browser encoder can still affect file size and some image characteristics.

Keep your original image

Metadata cleaning creates a new copy. Keep the original if you may need its camera, location or other embedded information later.
