Why do photos appear sideways?
A photo can be stored in an orientation that differs from how it is displayed by an app or device. A rotated export creates a new image with the requested orientation baked into its pixels.
Choosing the rotation
Use 90° when a landscape image needs to become portrait or vice versa. Use 180° for an upside-down image and 270° when the opposite 90° direction is needed.
What happens to the original?

Rotate before sharing
A correctly oriented image is easier to review when uploaded to forms, websites or messages. If you also need to reduce the resulting file size, use the compressor afterward.
